Opportunity: Parent / Carer Representative (Governor) required for Local Advisory Committee
A vacancy has arisen for a parent / carer representative to join our school governing body, now known as our Local Advisory Committee (LAC).
Our volunteer committee members have a very important part to play in helping our school to run effectively. They work as part of a team alongside other LAC members, the Headteacher, school leaders and school staff to help provide a happy, safe and thriving learning environment and an excellent education for all of our pupils. As a Parent / Carer Representative, you will be well placed to understand parent and carer views and will have first-hand knowledge of how the school is run from a parent / carer perspective. You will have the opportunity to work towards improving the school experience not only for your own child, but for all of the pupils at Thomas Bewick School.
What will you do?
You will work with the LAC to develop the school’s vision and aims and will participate in the monitoring and evaluation of priorities identified within the School Development Plan. You will play a key part in forming the strategic direction of the school, in partnership with other LAC members and school leaders. You will not be expected to gather the views of other parents / carers and take them to LAC meetings or to personally become involved in individual matters. You will need to be able to present a balanced and impartial view, for the benefit of all pupils.
What is the time commitment?
LAC meetings are held four times per year and you will also be encouraged to visit the school for monitoring activities and to attend school events. During these meetings you will receive reports from the Headteacher and will be invited to question, challenge and support decisions.
